Advocates for Mammoth is a community organization working to maintain the character of our mountain town, our “village in the trees.” Accelerating development is resulting in high densities, massive cutting of trees, buildings taller than current general plan guidelines, and encroachments on community open spaces. Our citizens worked long and hard to compile a General Plan that expresses the community desires. Our town leaders continually grant variances and zoning changes that alter both the spirit and the letter of this hard-fought-for document. Currently, there are many neighborhood district plans, development agreements, specific plans, and zoning changes in the pipeline that will further alter, not only the General Plan, but the small town atmosphere we all came to Mammoth Lakes to enjoy. We seek your input on issues affecting us all in Mammoth Lakes permanent residents, second homeowners, seasonal workers, visitors, and our neighbors throughout Mono County. Our community is diverse on the surface, yet quite similar in our desires to preserve the beautiful views, dark skies, water and air quality, tall trees, and quiet found here in this gem of the Eastern Sierra. Please join us in fighting the “vertical sprawl” that allows for the denser, taller, and amenity light projects that have become the norm, not the exception. Page last updated |
